Queens College in Charlotte, NC offers an outstanding online MBA program that makes an advanced degree more accessible to business students in the state and around the country.

The online program, offered by Queen’s McColl School of Business, will utilize team based learning, personalized mentors and plenty of feedback from both professors and peers. It also will provide students with one-on-one sessions with a personal executive coach, guidance from an alumni mentor on a regular basis, and leadership feedback from instructors and peers.

The core business curriculum is robust and  focuses on the following topics:

Students have two concentrations from which to choose: health care (one of the highest paying specialities) and leadership. The former looks at essential business functions in clinics, hospitals, insurance companies and other health care facilities. The latter gives students an up-close view of what it takes to efficiently operate a business at the executive level. Studies in strategic thinking ethics and core governance are explored.

Face Time With Coaches and Mentors

A unique aspect of this online MBA program is the amount of one-on-one time with executives, faculty and fellow students in two separate residences on campus. The first occurs before classes start, and includes a panel discussion Queens’ Executives in Residence.

The second residency happens halfway through the MBA program, and focuses on professional development of every student. Each student receives a customized, 360 degree report, assessments of leadership skills, executive coaching classes, and a keynote address from a top business executive.

Guest speakers of the MBA program, including chairmen, entrepreneurs, consultants and CEOs, will share insights over the three year program about what causes organizational success and failure. Queens MBA students will leave the program with very valuable, hands on information that can be used to improve their leadership skills and move up the corporate ladder.

Scholarships are available, and aspiring students also can apply for outside scholarships to pay for their education.

More About The Online MBA Program

  • Classes generally are delivered in an asynchronous format so that you can participate on your time schedule. Students will however have the chance for face-to-face exercises with classmates and instructors. There also will be live leadership assessments and plenty of faculty networking time. Much of that networking will occur at the two residencies that student must participate in at the campus in Charlotte, NC.
  • The degree can be finished in 24 months, and classes are either 8 or 15 weeks long.

Some of the classes that you will take include:

  • Organizational Behavior: Gives an overview of topics that are vital in the field of organizational behavior. There is a stress on developing a strong grasp of issues and problems, and an understanding of the latest theories of human behavior on the job. Topics touched upon include motivation, teamwork, leadership, work roles and career issues.
  • Managerial Accounting: Introduces the core concepts of managerial and financial accounting. It also delves into how managers analyze and use accounting data to make the best managerial decisions. The course focuses on the best ways to compute and prepare reports and analyses and how to interpret them for the best business decisions.
  • Leadership Development: Provides you with a development opportunity to become more effective as a leader. The class is based upon the fact that higher self-awareness is critical to being effective as  a leader. Students will be exposed to many experiences and assessments. These include 360 degree feedback, a personality assessment, and coaching.
  • Managing in a Global Context: Develops a better understanding of the many challenges that firms and managers face in trying to operate in a global business community. The class explores the causes and consequences of the rapidly changing global business environment.
  • Business Analytics: Gives an overview of techniques and concepts of statistical data analysis and management science, as they support effective decision making throughout a company. This includes quantitative methods that are often used to support common business decision models.
